Where Bold Vision Meets Timeless Craftsmanship
Back in 2011, we started Crimson Valthar in a cramped office above a coffee shop on Commercial Drive. Just three architects who were tired of seeing Vancouver's architectural scene play it safe. We wanted something different - buildings that actually meant something, y'know?
Fast forward to now, and we've designed over 80 projects across BC. From gutting heritage homes in Gastown to creating LEED Platinum office spaces in Richmond, we've learned that good architecture isn't about following trends. It's about listening - really listening - to what a space needs to become.
Our approach? We don't do cookie-cutter. Never have. Each project starts with conversations over coffee (usually too much coffee), site visits where we get our boots muddy, and sketches that evolve into something real. We're not the firm that'll give you a template design with your name slapped on it.
The "Crimson" part comes from our philosophy that architecture should be bold, unapologetic. "Valthar" was actually the name of my grandfather's carpentry shop in the Okanagan - he taught me that craftsmanship isn't optional, it's everything.
We're architects, sure. But also coffee addicts, cycling enthusiasts, and people who genuinely care about this city.
Principal Architect
Started drafting floor plans when I was 12. Now I get to do it for real buildings. Spent 8 years at a corporate firm before realizing life's too short for boring architecture. When I'm not obsessing over load-bearing walls, I'm mountain biking in North Van.
Lead Sustainable Design
Got my masters in Environmental Design from UBC. Joined the firm in 2014 because Mike actually cared about sustainable building (not just LEED points for marketing). I'm the one who'll tell you if your "green" idea is actually green or just expensive.
Heritage & Restoration Specialist
Came to Vancouver from Lagos in 2008. Fell in love with the city's old buildings that everyone wanted to tear down. Spent years learning how to make heritage structures work for modern life. If there's a 100-year-old building involved, I'm probably the one geeking out over the original joinery.
• First meeting? We're listening, not pitching. Your project, your vision.
• Site analysis that goes beyond Google Maps. We walk the land, talk to neighbors, understand the context.
• Design phases with real feedback loops - you're not just nodding at our genius, we're collaborating.
• Construction oversight where we actually show up. Weekly site visits aren't optional for us.
• Post-completion check-ins because buildings need to be lived in to be truly finished.
Got a project that needs more than just four walls and a roof? Let's grab coffee and talk about it.
